Last week members of Cheyenne Fire rescue, who are also assigned to the Wyoming’s Department of Homeland Security’s Technical Rescue Team (TRT), attended a week long class to hone their skills in Salt Lake City UT. Currently the department has 18 members assigned to the TRT, and they train and maintain proficiency in all aspects of technical rescue.
CFR has the unique opportunity to train at the Petzl Technical Institute in Salt Lake City Utah, which is one of the world’s leading manufacturers for a great deal of the technical equipment used by the team.
The class was instructed by Peak Rescue out of Casper, WY, and most of the week was spent working on advanced skills in high angle rescue and confined spaces.
Three new members were added, which meant time was spent getting those new members ready to operate with the rest of the team. In addition to high angle and confined space, the team is also highly trained for response to trench collapse, tower rescue, structural collapse and back country rescue. Many of the members are also assigned to the departments Ladder company that will be assigned to the new fire station 3.
